Home made lacing cards:

Home made lacing cards:

Rather than buy them, how about making them.  The above cards are used with the children I work with.  They are made from various images from google or similar or magazines or colouring books.

The pictures are cut out, then laminated, then hole punched.  Add shoe laces and hey presto you have home made lacing cards.

You can produce various sets by making different themes, e.g. farm yard, zoo, under the sea, pets etc.

Develops:

Hand - eye coordination
Fine motor skills
Language development

One of the best makes yet that will last a long time and are very robust!

I would love to hear what you think of this idea.  Please leave a comment : )

Have fun.

Words for Life - We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Words for Life - We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Another one of my all time favourite books!  This is just brilliant all round.  I love the way that one page is coloured and the next is black and white, coloured, then black and white.

Great for developing children's creativity and imagination.  The sky isnt always blue and the grass isnt always nesseserily green.......

Lots of wonderful repetative language.  Brilliant for physical skills to get all involved moving with the story.....we cant go over it, we cant go over it...we have to go through it!

I include textured materials when reading this story.  Great for bare feet....chocolate mud, shallow pool of water, scrunchy material for the swishy swashy grass, old dvds hanging from a tree for the swirly whirly snow storm etc etc.

Find some great resources for 3-5 year olds on the National Literacy website to go hand in hand with this great book.

5 green bottles

5 green bottles, standing on a wall....

Here's one of my creation page projects I have recently made.  This is a tactile resource that develops counting skills.  The bottles have been velcroed on so the bottles can come off when they fall off the wall.  This resource has been made so that the bottles can be put in order from largest to smallest, smallest to largest, counting up from 1, counting down from 5 and just as pure resources to just sing with.

I made this to bring the song alive for the children.

I would love to hear your comments about this resource and any others so please feel free to drop me a line.  I look forward to hearing from you : )

5 little ducks

Five little ducks

A popular song which is a firm favourite. I know that many of you will use various kinds of props to go along with this song to bring it alive for the children. I just thought I would share this idea and variation with you. Apart from a shimmery piece of fabric for the pond, I have used antislip ducks that would normally be used underfoot in the bath or shower.
They are versatile as you can add them to water too, tactile for little hands and great to develop counting skills both upwards and downwards.

Check out your nearest home stores, I have frogs too for five little speckled frogs.

The great thing about these is that as they have non slip backing they can stick to the tiled wall in the bathroom too so you can sing and count while having fun in the bath.

Have fun!
